Fanbases…
I do my best to refrain from judging a fanbase as a whole, considering that every person has their own take and level of interest in each.
I will, however, say that some fanbases have some frightening stuff that comes out of them, en masse. I do not hate Avatar fans, though some of their shipping gets out of control. I do not hate Bronies, though some of their intensity may be overwhelming. There are a myriad of different fan-bases all with different people that I could pull from. But no matter what, I will not, ever, say “I hate (fanbase). What an unruly, unsavory bunch they are.” That is not helpful, it is not progressive, and it does nothing to solve the problem or bring us any closer to understanding.
I will also never say that I hate a show based on its fanbase. If I think something is good, I’ll watch it. If it’s bad, I’ll judge that for myself before I *decide* not to watch it.
Lastly, while someone might “technically” qualify for a fanbase name, I think it is up to the individual to decide whether or not they qualify and no one else.
Looking at you, Bronies. Not all of you, but definitely a vocal group of you.
